In this slim volume (48 pages, published by Junfermann Verlag), Marshall B. Rosenberg shares his thoughts on parenting based on Non-Violent Communication. He was familiar with the African proverb ‘It takes a whole village to raise a child’ and shares here what has really helped him and the parents he has worked with.
Rosenberg was the father of three children and speaks candidly about how challenging he repeatedly found it to put his values into practice in everyday life with his daughter and his two sons. This candour gives the book its distinctive tone: here, the founder of Non-Violent Communication presents his ideas on parenting without pretending that everything was easy for him at home.
He himself writes: “Over the last 30 years, I have repeatedly introduced parents to Non-Violent Communication and would like to share here some of the things that have been helpful both to me and to the parents I have worked with.” In doing so, he shares insights he has gained through his challenging and wonderful exploration of the subject of parenthood.
