This slim book by Marshall B. Rosenberg gives you a concise introduction to the fundamentals of Nonviolent Communication in 64 pages. Just right if you want to get started quickly and prefer working with exercises, example sentences and tables rather than hefty tomes.

At its heart is a simple observation: when judgements dominate communication, the other person often reacts with fear, defensiveness or guilt. When honesty and empathy provide the framework instead, you can truly learn from the other person, even when you disagree strongly. Rosenberg summarises the four steps of NVC and supplements them with practical exercises that you can begin straight away.

Some of the material dates from the 1980s. The book itself was first published in Italian in 2011 and is now available in Petra Quast's German translation.

Marshall B. Rosenberg (1934 to 2015) was internationally known as a conflict mediator and the founder of the Center for Nonviolent Communication (CNVC). The method of Nonviolent Communication that he developed helps people resolve differences peacefully, both in their personal and professional lives.

Published by Junfermann Verlag, 64 pages. If you would like to explore the subject in greater depth afterwards, we also stock his foundational book ‘Gewaltfreie Kommunikation - Eine Sprache des Lebens’.
