“What do you need?” is a lovingly illustrated picture storybook by Hanna Grubhofer (80 pages, published by edition riedenburg). It introduces children to giraffe language and non-violent communication, set in the heart of the forest, where Emil the Meerkat wants to go to a fragrant berry bush with his family and his friend Carla the Chameleon. But Carla doesn’t feel like it, and Emil doesn’t understand why.

Before it turns into an argument, Gino the Giraffe turns up and helps the two of them recognise and express their needs. Mia Mouse, Balduin Bear, Pedro Peacock, Martha Mole and other young animals also find themselves at odds over what they need at that moment, and Gino the Giraffe is always on hand to show what is important to each of them right now.

When you read the book with your children or grandchildren, you can discover together how Non-Violent Communication (NVC) can resolve conflicts in a child-friendly way: recognising feelings and needs to find a suitable solution for everyone. The numerous interactive pages for colouring, writing and talking invite you to explore the story’s themes together after reading the tale.

Hanna Grubhofer is a mother of seven, a psychologist, a trainer in Non-Violent Communication, a mediator, a family coach and an author. The book is illustrated by Barbara Weingartshofer, a graphic designer and illustrator who has already won two awards for her infographics and pictograms.

The story continues in *‘What Do You Need Now?’*. We also publish Hanna Grubhofer’s guidebooks *‘The Magic Book of Family Harmony’* and *‘The Magic Book of Family Harmony in Practice’*.
