Art postcard No. 05: Get creative!

‘Should, ought to, could, would, would have … done!’ This card, No. 05 from Christiane Lesch’s series, sums up a thought that many of us carry around in our heads: all those ‘would’s’ and ‘should’s’ before something finally happens. A little nudge for your desk, noticeboard or as a greeting for someone who’s just about to get things done.

Christiane Lesch, born in 1940, studied graphic design in the late 1950s and, as a mother of three, went on to become a renowned children’s book illustrator. Alongside commissioned work, she devotes herself to painting, using colour etchings and watercolours.

The card is part of a collaboration with her friend, NVC trainer Dr Gitta Zimmermann. Gitta gave her a list of quotes relating to the principles of Non-Violent Communication (NVC) and left it up to her to choose which ones she wanted to illustrate. Christiane says: “These quotes really struck a chord with me!” Both wanted images that were child-friendly and would captivate viewers of all ages with their vibrant colours. First came many sketches, then discussions with Gitta, and then Christiane set the designs aside for a while: “It’s like making yeast dough. You have to let it rise…”

There are a total of 10 art postcards from her studio, available individually or as a discounted bundle. The designs are also available as a pack of 10 in business-card format, perfect as gifts or as inspiration for workshops and practice sessions. And for those who’d like even more from Christiane Lesch: she’s also produced a perpetual GFK calendar and the children’s book *Lups and Spotty*.
