International Intensive Trainings run by the Center for Nonviolent Communication (CNVC) have long included the role of ‘Empathizer of the day’. Anyone who feels fit and open enough in the morning takes a badge and wears it throughout the day, signalling to the group that a listening ear is available here.

That makes the search easy for everyone else. If you have something on your mind, you can see at once who is ready to exercise their empathy muscles today. In the evening, the badge returns to the centre, and the next day someone else is sure to pick it up.

The badge itself features a heart drawn by the Heide artist Gerhard Wegner. It has a butterfly clasp and measures 4 centimetres in diameter.
