Al Weckert’s *Non-Violent Communication for Dummies* is a real tome, published by Wiley-VCH. If you’ve been practising NVC for a while, you’ll know the drill: many books explain the four steps and then that’s it. This one picks up where others leave off.

Weckert devotes space to topics that are often neglected: active listening, body language and facial expressions, conflict management, plus a separate chapter on NVC and mediation. And because NVC rarely takes place solely at the kitchen table, there’s a detailed section on work, parenting and relationships. Systemic consensus-building, as a more recent method, is also covered.

The language remains clear and easy to understand, and the topics build on one another in a logical way. There are also very practical tips – for example, on dealing with people who talk a lot – and original ideas on how to actually put the theory into practice in everyday life. Suitable for beginners as well as trainers.
