Postcard: We’re here ...

"We are here because, ultimately, there is no escaping ourselves …" You may already be familiar with this line by Richard Beauvais; it is often featured at NVC events. His poem is now available as a postcard.

Choosing the image from KELLEPICS wasn’t an easy decision: at first glance, it seems sombre, almost menacing. And yet, for our team, it was exactly the right illustration for this moving poem by the American Richard Beauvais (1938–2019).

The poem describes community as a mirror in which you, as a human being, are accepted: not as the giant of your dreams, not as the dwarf of your fears, but simply as yourself. A community that wishes to integrate Non-Violent Communication into its life can be just such a place where individuals find acceptance and a sense of security.

And each and every one of us can play a part, in the spirit of NVC founder Dr Marshall Rosenberg, in recognising and appreciating the beauty in the person opposite us, even when we do not always see eye to eye.
